WELCOME TO OUR TWO-DAY TRAIL RUNNING EVENT
CRAFTED WITH PASSION AND FUELLED BY ADVENTURE!
The Ossewa Trail Run takes you into the heart of Kerkenberg — where towering cliffs, endless grasslands, and rich South African history come together to create something truly special.
From the very first climb, the mountain demands your attention. The ascent is challenging, but always rewarding. Around every corner, the landscape unfolds into breathtaking scenes — wide valleys below, sandstone ridges above, and Eland roaming freely across the mountain.
There’s a quietness on Kerkenberg that’s difficult to describe. A sense that this mountain carries stories older than the trails themselves. Long before trail runners arrived, Voortrekkers crossed these slopes with their ossewaens, navigating the same rugged terrain you’ll run today.
After the challenge comes the reward — a relaxed, top-class recovery experience where runners can sit back, look up at the mountain they’ve just conquered, and soak in the feeling of accomplishment. Good conversation, shared stories, craft beer and locally distilled gin from Clarens, and wholesome food designed to satisfy both runners and well-earned post-race cravings all come together to create an atmosphere that feels warm, welcoming, and unforgettable.
Ossewa isn’t about massive crowds and filling spaces. It’s about quality over quantity. It’s about community, genuine hospitality, honest climbs, unforgettable scenery, and the shared experience of reaching the summit together.
Past runners have called it:
“One of those races that stays with you long after the weekend ends.”
“Beautiful, challenging, and completely different from any trail run I’ve done before.”
“You arrive for the run — but you leave talking about the mountain.”
Whether it’s your first trail adventure or another chapter in your running journey, the 2027 Ossewa Trail Run promises an experience that’s wild, welcoming, and uniquely South African.
